World United 3 - 3 Abbey Villa 4ths

Sunday 5th February 2012

Ward Park, Bangor

A great match and goals all around with A.V. scoring from their first goal kick not being dealt with by the United back 4 and then two nil as a similar ball over the top caused chaos ending up in a simple tap in. 10 minutes and the score was WU 0 AV 2.

Asen Georgiev was unlucky not to be awarded a penalty as he danced into the box getting bundled over and Michael Boyd spurred a great back post header with the defence doing just enough to hinder him. Gavin Wilson put in some match saving tackles for the W.U. defence and also provided some great through balls from the left back position.

After a few changes to the shape the chances started to come and Ciaran Murphy scored a delicious left footed volley to beat the diving keeper from a clipped cross by Aruna Djalo. The come back was on. Ciaran then missed a one on one just a few minutes later placing his shot wide but the equaliser did come from great link up play by Ciaran to Aruna and on to Michael Boyd to apply a sweet finish. 2 – 2.

Into the second half Asen, Junior Djalo and Ciaran had chances but it was Junior who pounced on a scuffed Asen shot from a great cut back that put W.U. ahead for the first time in the game.

With 10 minutes to go Villa got their equaliser in slightly controversial fashion when a Tom Hall clearance was closed down and adjudged to have crossed the line as Aidan O Neil desperately cleared and again the debate on goal line technology resurfaced.

Rui Borges and Aruna drew fantastic saves after powerful runs before the strong finishing W.U. were brought to a halt by the ref and honours were shared on a day that both teams would have gladly played all over again.
