World United 1 – 1 Inst. Alumni

Sunday 18th December 2011
Seaview, Belfast

This was the first match in a new era for World United since Paul Moffett stepped down and for the new joint managers, brothers Ciaran and Adrian Murphy. Inst. started the match brightly, passing and moving the ball well and forced a few early corners. The first real chance was a swift counter attack from W.U. that Ciaran Murphy flashed a shot just wide from.

W.U. took the lead on 30 minutes when, with the ball won in midfield Ciaran played brother Adrian on goal and the ball was clipped past the oncoming keeper with cool precision to make it 1 – 0 and a fitting link up for the first goal.

Inst. continued to move the ball well creating a series of half chances Tom Hall pulling off some outstanding saves and some great defending by Michael Boyd and a man of the match performance from Aidan O’Neil in protecting the clean sheet. Asen Georgiev also forced a fine stop from the Inst. keeper.

In the second half W.U. had two excellent chances, amongst others, to double their lead and both fell to the surging Chris Moffett in one on one situations but were unlucky not to be converted.

With almost the 90 minutes up the Inst. equaliser was a slightly fortunate one when a looped cross from the right deflected back off the far upright and in off W.U. goalkeeper Tom Hall’s shoulder and into the net which meant the clean and hard fought game finished a fair one goal a piece.
